METIS Aerospace Ltd is an Aerospace and Defence company based in Lincolnshire (UK). Unique, agile and dynamic, it provides a range of specialist products, services and support for use across military and commercial markets.
Their expertise in Radio Frequency (RF) systems has led to the development of two core products, SKYPERION and HYPERION. Both systems are designed to Detect, Track and Identify RF targets of interest and have at their heart a fully
integrated, scalable RF detection system. The SKYPERION system has been specifically tuned to enable detection of radio-controlled drones and their operators, and is a proven capability currently providing 24/7 passive drone detection cover at Gatwick Airport, as well as to a number of military organisations across the globe. SKYPERION is available in several formats including fixed, mobile (land, sea and air) and body worn (dismounted soldier).
The HYPERION sensor is a compact Signals Intelligence (SIGINT) system with minimal SWaP requirements which has been developed to provide for more general spectral monitoring and advanced signals exploitation, in the air or o the ground. As such, this sensor is ideally suited to provide the essential detect component of any Counter-Explosive Ordnance (C-EO) system, especially in the fight against Improvised Explosive Devices (IED’s) that utilise commercial electronic devices as trigger mechanisms.
Building on their C-EO detect solutions, and leveraging off their in-house R&D capabilities, METIS have more recently been part of a consortium which successfully demonstrated an autonomous ground hugging drone with ground penetrating radar for mine detection (MINEHUNTER). This was in response to Phase 1 of the European Space Agency Project MIDAS (Mine & IED Detection Augmented by Satellite).
Consequently, METIS remain at the forefront of these technologies and are continuing to work on how best to meet the ongoing challenges within the global mine detection and clearance field.
